Taxonomía Tras diversos estudios se ha concluido que el almendro cultivado es un híbrido de las especies Amygdalus fenzliana y Amygdalus bucharica. Originario de las regiones montañosas de Asia central y algunas zonas de Asia occidental, se introdujo en España a través de fenicios, romanos y árabes.
