(Tánger, 25-II-1304 – Fez, Marruecos, 1368/1377). Shams ai-Din ’Abú ’Abd Allah Muhammad ibn ’Abd Allah ibn Muhammad ibn Ibrahim ibn Muhammad ibn Ibrahim ibn Yusuf al-Tawati al-Tanyi. Jurista, escritor y viajero musulmán. El itinerario de los viajes que realizó entre 1325 y 1349 comprendió las ciudades y regiones de Tánger, África del Norte, Egipto, Alto Nilo, Siria, La Meca, Arabia, Irak, Mar Rojo, Yemen, Mogadisco, África oriental, Asia Menor, Constantinopla, Afganistán, valle del Indo, Delhi (India), Ceilán (actual Sri Lanka), las Maldivas, Bengala, Sumatra, Zaytun (China), Golfo Pérsico, Bagdad, Alejandría, Fez, Túnez, Cerdeña y Argelia. En 1350 desembarcó en Gibraltar, donde describió el puerto fortificado y los astilleros construidos por orden de ’Abú-1-Hasan para remplazar a los de Algeciras, tras la toma de la ciudad por Alfonso XI en 1343 y la victoria cristiana en río Salado.
